Welcome to Herbstein, the city on the mountains! The between 280 and 710 m above sea level. Heilbad Herbstein is Hesse’s highest mineral spring and a state-approved climatic health resort. Herbstein is idyllically located in the Hoher Vogelsberg Nature Park, in the middle of the largest and extinct volcano in Central Europe.
The varied landscape with rare plants and animals is balm for heart and soul. There is an extensive (premium) hiking and cycling network available. You can go horse riding and play golf (18-hole golf course in Lauterbach-Sickendorf).
The nearby VulkanTherme with its wide range of offers (including mini golf course) also means that health and wellness are not neglected. Herbstein itself has, among other things, a historic town center, a walkable town wall with underground vaults, an interesting Lastnachtsmuseum, cozy restaurants and cozy villages all around.

Hessens highest mineral spring attracts with health and wellness offers whatever the weather. The VulkanTherme has 32.6 ° C warm, magnesium-rich, mineral-containing calcium-sodium-sulfate healing water. It flows from a depth of over 1,000 m into the pool of the thermal exercise bath and has a positive effect on the internal organs when bathing. In addition to the VulkanTherme, the VulkanSauna also offers relaxation, peace and vitality. Thanks to the modern, open construction with a large glass facade, the nature of the Vogelberg is very close and the volcano is always present. Steam baths with low temperatures and high air humidity, classic Finnish saunas and organic saunas with fragrance and aromatherapy are offered. Moderate inclines, a fine, wide asphalt surface and unmistakable, continuous signage inspire visitors who just want to move and enjoy nature. The kleinHOTEL Herbstein is located directly on the volcano cycle path, the Bonifatius hiking path and the Jakobsweg!
Volcano Cycle Path – Experience 94 kilometers of cycling fun across the Vogelsberg region.
On these, cycling at the foot of the Vogelsberg is no problem, even for trained cyclists and families. Because with a maximum of three percent incline / decline, cycling is unbelievably fun even in low mountain ranges. The smooth fine asphalt naturally also inspires all inline fans and handbikers. It is 94 kilometers long and meanders largely on the route of the former Oberwaldbahn through the wonderful open forest and meadow landscape.
